Gottschalk's Big Birthday Bash
Thomas Gottschalk is part of our collective memory. 98 percent of Germans know him, generations of radio listeners and television viewers grew up with him. Nobody has had as much influence on German TV and show entertainment as Thomas Gottschalk.
On May 18, 2015, the entertainment giant turned 65, and RTL celebrated with him during a big live show: Many friends came to wish him a happy birthday, to sing, to celebrate “our Thommy” and to surprise him. Several episodes from his life were remembered – some of which he had chosen to forget. The live show was neither solemn nor sappy, but funny above all.
Gottschalk hosted the birthday show himself, of course, yet many colleagues made sure that he wasn’t the only big name on the list: Otto Waalkes, Hugo Egon Balder, Barbara Schöneberger, Guido Maria Kretschmer, Günther Jauch and many more national and international guests joined the fun. The Friesenjungs, conducted by Otto Waalkes himself, provided musical entertainment.
5.42 million viewers tuned in to “Gottschalk’s Big Birthday Party” on RTL, for a top market share of 19.5%.
